Personal Independence Payment

Thank you for contacting me about the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessment and people with multiple sclerosis (MS).

As you note, the landmark Health and Disability White Paper sets out the Government’s commitment both to abolishing the Work and Capability Assessment (WCA) and to transforming the entire PIP service.

As part of overall improvements, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will continue testing the introduction of a Severe Disability Group for those with the most severe health conditions, so people do not need to complete a detailed application form or go through an assessment.

Throughout and beyond the implementation of the reforms outlined in the White Paper, the Government will continue to listen to, and work with, disabled people, organisations, charities, and experts, to ensure the voices of disabled people remain at the heart of delivering action.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
