MP Bob Seely is encouraging Isle of Wight community groups to bid for funding that will help support initiatives to drive down anti-social behaviour.
There is £500k up for grabs across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and the Island’s MP is keen to see the Island take a share.
He said: “Our excellent Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, has made this funding available to help tackle anti-social behaviour.
“Donna and I have already met with Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council and staff at the West Wight Sports and Community Centre to tell them about the funding.
“I want to see bids coming forward from Isle of Wight community groups, so if any other groups are considering putting in a bid, please do get in touch. I will happily support Isle of Wight bids.”
The fund is open to bids from local authorities, police, Community Safety Partnerships and community groups to provide partnership solutions to recurring anti-social behaviour issues.
Projects funded by the Commissioner’s ASB Fund this year included four new electric bikes for the South Wight Neighbourhood Policing Team to help tackle anti-social behaviour in Sandown, Shanklin, Lake and Ventnor, and a collaborative trial in Ryde between the police, Network Ryde and the Town Council which resulted in a 27 per cent reduction in anti-social behaviour in the town.
Since the ASB Fund was launched in July 2021, anti-social behaviour has been on the decline in Hampshire and across the Isle of Wight.
