A community survey has been launched to gather views from Yarmouth residents about the future of the former Yarmouth Primary School site, which now lies vacant.
The premises and associated land are set to be marketed by the Isle of Wight Council but MP Bob Seely said first he wants residents’ to have their say on its future.
He said: “I’m keen that the Isle of Wight Council makes sure it gets the best value out of the site and that doesn’t necessarily mean the highest price, but the best outcome for the community.
“I’ve been out knocking on doors in Yarmouth over the last few weekends to listen to what residents have to say. Those I’ve spoken to so far want to see the site used for either affordable housing, education, or community use.
“There’s a good opportunity here to put together a community bid so there’s lots of work to be done.
“I’m keen to ensure resident views are considered. I’ve spoken with members of Yarmouth Town Council - and they agree - which is why they have put together an online survey to capture views. They have also successfully applied to register the property as an Asset of Community Value and formed a steering group.
“I’ll be out in Yarmouth again this weekend to deliver letters with a link to the survey. If residents prefer, they can also send their views directly to me at [email protected].”
