MP Bob Seely said: “I’m delighted that plans to construct 149 houses on greenfield land in Gunville have been rejected by the council’s planning committee and I thank all those who campaigned against this development including the former and current IW Councillors (John Hobart and Joe Lever respectively), along with Matt Ambrosini speaking on behalf of the Community Council.
“I objected to these plans on the grounds that this development would have unnecessarily and irreversibly removed more of the Island’s natural green spaces, increased traffic in the area, and would not have met the housing needs of Islanders.
“I want us to have an Island Plan that takes into account the housing needs of Islanders. We need to think more carefully about where we build and who we build for and with that in mind, I encourage all Islanders to respond to the Island Planning Strategy consultation document to have their say on future house building on the Island. Now is the time to speak up and help shape the Island’s future.”
