Local champion Bob Seely has thanked the organisers and all those who attended the D-Day events across the Isle of Wight.
Over the past few days, the Island has seen several events taking place to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy during World War II.
Bob attended the D-Day ceremony on Cowes Parade on Thursday evening, the lighting of the beacon in Yarmouth and the commemorations at Victoria Rec in Newport on Saturday.
He said: “I thank everyone who was involved in the organisation of the D-Day events across the Island, especially those I attended in Cowes, Newport and Yarmouth. A lot of hard work goes into organising these events, which is done mostly by volunteers. They did the Island proud.
“Thank you also to all those who turned out to celebrate and pay their respects to those who fought and died for our country.”
Bob is a former soldier, himself having served in the UK Armed Forces between 2008 to 2017 on the Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and ISIS campaigns.
