Following calls from Island residents, the Island’s MP, Bob Seely, has raised the lack of drop-off and collection points for Evri parcels on the Island with the mainland-based delivery company.
Mr Seely said: “Constituents have made me aware that whilst Evri offers delivery services on the Isle of Wight, there are no local Evri ParcelShops on the Island.
“Some shoppers are frustrated by this and, yet again, it feels like the Island has been overlooked because of our separation by sea from the mainland.”
Mr Seely has written to Hermes Parcelnet Ltd, which oversees the Evri parcel delivery and courier service on the Island, to ask what plans the delivery company has to increase the number of ParcelShops on the Island, and if it will consider offering services in all the Island’s major towns.
In his letter, Mr Seely said: “As the ferry journey from the Isle of Wight to the mainland can take up to 60 minutes, it is not feasible for customers to use ParcelShop services on the mainland. As I am sure you will agree, Islanders would be keen to take advantage of local ParcelShop services.
“These include send, collect and return services; label printing services; and packageless services.
“I urge you to ensure that the Isle of Wight is not overlooked as a result of its separation by sea.”
Mr Seely said he understood that Evri accepts applications from store owners to become a ParcelShop for their local area and has asked the delivery company to take the Island’s overall needs into account when receiving such applications from stores on the Isle of Wight.
