MP Bob Seely spoke in parliament last Thursday (January 23) calling on the Secretary of State for International Trade to help an Island business.
Bob asked International Trade Secretary, Liz Truss, for help with export finance and banking finance for Island business PE Composites.
Bob said: “Graham Harvey is a constituent of mine who runs an excellent little composites business on the Isle of Wight. He’s just won a big order to sell to Taiwan. Exactly the sort of business that I know the Secretary of State will want to be cheering on.
“He’s finding it extremely difficult to get export finance and banking finance.”
Bob asked the Secretary of State whether she shared his concerns that small and medium scale businesses are not being given the support they need to export successfully.
Liz Truss responded stating: “I’ve laid this out to the team that we do more to support small and medium sized enterprise.
“I’d be very happy to look at the case… and make sure they’re getting the support they need because we do have additional available finance.”
Mr Seely was also advised about a toolkit for MPs to assist in getting in touch with UK Export Finance.
