Thank you for contacting me about the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB & Malaria.
I share your high regard for the work of the Global Fund and partners, which, over the past 20 years, as you well know, has reduced the combined death rate from HIV, TB and malaria by more than half in the countries in which it invests.
The UK has long been one of the largest donors to the Global Fund, having provided over £4.4 billion to date, including a pledge of up to £1.4 billion as part of its current replenishment.
The UK also played an instrumental role in establishing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). HM Government is committed to advancing them both internationally and at home, as reaffirmed in the Integrated Review. Part of the process towards achieving SDG 3 - health and well-being for all - will of course involve continued efforts to tackle AIDS, TB and malaria.
My ministerial colleagues at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) remain committed to supporting this fight and, indeed, supporting the Global Fund. The FCDO's 'Ending the Preventable Deaths' policy paper, published in December 2021, made this clear, as did the G7 Leaders’ June 2022 Communiqué, which openly supported a successful Seventh Replenishment, while contributing to achieving universal health coverage.
The UK committed to remaining a strong supporter of the Global Fund at the seventh replenishment, in line with the FCDO's new International Development Strategy. The UK's pledge will be announced in the coming weeks.
