Some good news on ferry timetables.
Wightlink have confirmed in an email this week that late evening FastCat services will continue next year.
Keith Greenfield’s exact words in an email were:
“Whilst our planning is still in progress, I can reassure you that the late evening Fast Cat services will remain in the timetable in 2024.”
I am glad that Wightlink have listened to Islanders on this and I appreciate their decision.
It’s good news for residents and means that passengers will continue to have more flexibility when returning either from Portsmouth or Ryde. I would like to thank all those who have campaigned on this issue.
In my opinion, late services are an important part of the ferries’ obligations to the Island, regardless of how busy they are and regardless of whether there is legal stipulation. The late services are vital.
I remember one Islander who wrote to me last year who was doing her medical training on the mainland and whose journey home each night was painfully long - after an already long day - because the last FastCat ferry was too early. I am happy that she and many others can now plan their days and evenings knowing that there are late passenger services between Portsmouth and Ryde.
I’ll be working with the Isle of Wight Council on a shared statement regarding cross-Solent travel for September. This will outline what we believe the Island should expect from cross-Solent operators.
