The team behind a community bus scheme in the West Wight has revealed exciting new plans to make the service greener and more cost-effective.
This week (19 September) the FYTbus team launched a new route using a brand-new electric bus that will run between Bouldnor through Yarmouth, Freshwater and Totland and onto Alum Bay on weekday afternoons.
The new route – Route E - complements the two existing weekday morning routes around Freshwater, Yarmouth and Totland.
The FYTbus team, with support from Solent Transport, has also launched a brand-new App enabling residents to book their seats in advance.
Bookings can be made using the App (FYT and SCIA booking App), via the website www.fytbus.org.uk or by calling the FYTbus office on 01983 752917.
To complement the new electric bus, the FYTbus team is now pressing ahead with plans to install photovoltaic panels on the roof of their depot to power the new bus.
MP Bob Seely, who attended the launch event on Tuesday, said: “I would like to thank all of the volunteers working so hard behind the scenes to keep these vital services running.
“I’m really keen to support the team with their plans so I’m looking for grant funding to support the installation of the new roof panels.
“If there are any individuals or organisations out there who would like to help support this project please do get in touch, we’d be pleased to hear from you.”
Donations can be made via the FYTbus website www.fytbus.org.uk.
