Dear All,
I’ve been having a conversation with Chani from Surfers Against Sewage about everything that’s happening on the environmental improvement front.
Chani sent through a series of questions to which I gave detailed answers. She then suggested I post these answers for people who are interested in the details of this subject, so here they are (below).
The questions include how we enforce and deliver on the Environment Act and how we ensure the money from fines benefits the Isle of Wight. All great questions.
As folks know, Southern Water recently announced £230m investment on the Island.
As importantly, the Island is serving as a national pilot scheme for environmental improvements happening over the next decade. So almost all the good stuff happening to improve the environment and water is happening here first.
On that point, slow-release water butts will be offered to residents in Freshwater, Totland and Yarmouth early next year as part of a multifaceted approach to reducing storm overflows.
My letter to residents is going out this week to let folks know all the good things that are happening.
If there are any follow-up questions please ask.
Thanks
Bob
